Olorosso has the most incredible location in Edinburgh – in order to access the bar, you must enter at street level and ascend to the venue in a lift.

4 The Dome

The Dome is one of Edinburgh’s most impressive venues, being converted from an old bank with incredible internal architecture.

Favoured by an older and more relaxed clientele, you are more likely to find guests sipping a beer, or reading the paper quietly.

5 Ricks

Ricks is situated on Frederick Street, just off the ever-popular George Street. The bar is located on the lower ground floor of this ultra chic four star hotel.

Having recently been refurbished to rival the opulence of its sister unit Tigerlily, this Manhattanesque bar is truly one of Edinburgh’s finest.

The restaurant is open from breakfast and the bar serves delicious smoothies, coffees and juices during the day. Whilst at night, Rick’s cocktail mixologists’ produce some of the city’s best cocktails.

6 Tonic

Tonic is a fantastic independently operated Cocktail bar – located on Castle Street, just off George Street. It prides itself on its exceptional cocktails, and because of its location, is a great venue to include in a tour around Edinburgh’s finest drinking establishments

Sam Kershaw the bar manager of tonic has won the Scottish Bartender Award twice in 2005 and 2007 and as a result Tonic is currently Scotland’s classic bar of the Year

Bramble is situated just behind George Street on Queen Street. This snug bar has been newly refurbished to a high standard, whilst maintaining an incredibly relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere.

Carved into an old white-washed cellar and favoured by those in the know due to its size and location – Bramble has recently been awarded the incredible accolade of Edinburgh’s best bar – and serves some of the best cocktails in the city.

9 Indigo Yard

Indigo yard is a little bit off the beaten track – and as a result is incredibly popular with the city’s young professionals, because it is so close to the financial district.

10 Maxims Casino

Maxim’s is not going to win any prizes for serving Edinburgh’s best cocktails – or for that matter the decoration. However, friendly and polite staff will happily serve you wine and spirits until 6am – giving it quite a considerable edge.

The casino sports several roulette wheels, black jack and poker tables, with the bar being located on the upper mezzanine. If you are gambling the staff will event bring you a selection of bar snacks. Due to relaxations of the UK gambling regulations you can now sign up on the night as long as you have photo ID.

Beware leaving in bright sunlight as another fine day in the capital dawns!
